| 内容記述 | This paper uses concepts such as “metaphor” and “metonymy” from the perspective of cognitive linguistics to discuss the semantic expansion of the noun “mouth” in modern Chinese, and analyzes its cognitive mechanism. The paper discusses Metonymic and metaphorical extensions, where the semantic extension is based on the image schema of a “container”. The body part noun “mouth” is extended metonymically from its basic meaning, and metaphorically from the image schema of “container” in regards to “open/close”, “ eating behavior”, “verbal behavior”, “verbal expression”, and “object part”. These semantic extensions are also relevant when “mouth” is used as both a nominal classifier and a verbal classifier. When used as a nominal classifier, differences from other body part nouns used as classifiers, are also noted. | |||||||||||
